November is going to be awesome.
As some of you already know, I’m writing a novel. And damn it, I’m finishing the first draft this year!
How am I doing this? By taking a complete month of work off! I’ll still be spending quality time with the twins but for at least 6 hours of the day, I’m focusing on my dream project.
I’ve talked to professional (and successful!) writers in the past about my story’s premise. They believe it’s marketable and challenged me to take all of November off to make it happen ASAP – when the novel is ready to published, I’ll be giving more details about it. But for now, I’m just a novelist-wannabe who is taking action.
More specifically, I’m participating in the NaNoWriMo challenge, where I will be writing at least 50,000 words by the end of the 30 days in November. The mathematics tell me I need to write at least 1,667 words per day to make this happen. I believe that with 6 hours per day, I can accomplish much more. But saying it is different than actually doing it. But yes, the real goal is to FINISH this story.
The first draft will be dreadful. Awful. Too embarrassing to share with others. But once that draft is complete, I’m expecting at least 20 revisions, with countless days of polishing and refinement. I keep telling myself, “Baby steps!” I can’t edit a blank page. So I’m putting something on paper first. And that something, with God’s grace and empowerment, will transform into something extraordinary.
Exciting times! Truly thankful for my family and friends who have been extremely supportive. This novel is becoming a reality because of you.
