After one year of sleep deprivation, the Mewies escaped parenthood for one week to the beautiful island of Maui.
Some highlights of the vacation include:
- Snorkeling in Molokini: this underwater volcanic crater is packed with a thousand tourists on a daily basis. Roo, Em, Mrs. Mewie and I got very lucky – we shared a 25-person capacity boat with another couple and no one else was at Molokini – the six of us enjoyed our snorkeling adventure as if we were on a private charter. Since we were advanced snorkelers, our guide took us to the edge of the crater where we discovered the 250 foot drop into the deep blue. We also heard whales talking! Surreal experience.
- Jen & Steve’s Wedding: we’ve known Jen for 14 years – ever since my brother started dating her eldest sister, now my sister-in-law. It was truly special to have the entire Louie family (minus the twins) fly to Maui to celebrate Jen and Steve’s union.
- Twinless Vacation: we missed the twins dearly but we were able to have fun and remember life as a married couple without kids. Biggest thank you to Grandma and Grandpa Mew for caring for JereMaya while we were gone. We certainly enjoyed our brief freedom.
- Louie Family Time: in this season of life, my siblings and I are often busy raising our children and building up our careers. We don’t spend as much quality time together as we’d like and much less with mom and dad. But at least for this one week, we shared precious moments: playing “Settlers of Catan” late at night, discovering fantastic restaurants, drinking Lava Flows (I had six!), and simply enjoying each other’s presence.
We’re deeply grateful for this rare opportunity to share life with so many loved ones within one week. And as the video mentions, JereMaya will join us next time.
