Love waking up at 3:30 AM for work. Okay, not really.
But hey, exciting news for VMware!
I joined in 2011 when we had 9,000 employees. It’s mind-boggling to realize we’re now at ~16,000 employees and our Palo Alto campus has exceeded the size of Disneyland (100+ acres)! CRAZY!
Here’s some amazing footage of our expanding headquarters:
I’d be lying to say my career journey with VMware was a smooth, easy track. Leading the efforts in mass collaboration and orchestrating people engagement strategies involve countless decision makers, conflicts, misunderstandings, and variables you cannot control. But the challenges were and still are worthwhile. I look back at all the projects that have radically changed the company and I’m amazed how fast we change despite our growing size as a business. VMware is seriously like a startup company in so many aspects – that’s good and bad. The resources are there (sometimes not), but the entrepreneurial ideas keep flooding in and if someone really wants something happen, it does – provided there is enough buy-in and perseverance. I’ll have to explain some of my break-through projects at a later time.
My role as a storyteller also evolved over the years. Since the twins first entered my life, I knew video productions was something I wanted to explore. VMware’s upper management took notice of my newfound passion and equipped me with the best equipment, mentors, and support network so that I can thrive in this area. This is truly my ‘soul work’ and I’m excited to share my VMware video productions with y’all in the near future. Writing will always be my first love, but to share stories in a more vivid, easily digestible format – with music and visuals that move viewers to tears and fill them with inspiration – within minutes? Video is king.
2013 flew by fast. I have yet to give a recap of last year’s milestones. Something to add on my “To Do” list. But yes, as VMware’s latest press release indicates, 2014 is looking very exciting and promising – I’m looking forward to another year of tremendous growth!
